"Sweetness and light, the two noblest of things."

Honestly though, I’m not such a huge fan of these topographical flower situations in this Spring 2013 Dior Couture. These floppy/puffy applique petals dripping everywhere are a bit “Early 1960’s Vietnamese beauty pageant” as a certain fashion friend of mine once said.

Well, looks like Raf is settling in nicely.

In regards to shorts, pink+red, and asymmetry this look is my absolute preference. (Images via Vogue.com)

Everything.

This liquidy effect textile we’ve seen first at Armani a few seasons back, and then at Atelier Versace. But, Raf Simons used it in such particular, subtle colors and in wonderful ever so slightly poufed dressed at Dior that it looked fresh. Glossy for Spring 2013. (Images via Vogue.com)

These, I need.

Now that the house of Dior is officially moving into new territory, having named Raf Simons as successor to John Galliano (and Bill Gaytten), let’s pour a lil out to honor this Spring’s couture collection. Which was a fine effort by Gaytten, and is not lost on me.

Raf->Dior

Alright, well we all knew it.. but now it’s official.

To be quite honest, I love love loved Mr Simons at Jil Sander. And I was a bit heartbroken to see him go, even though Sander will be back in. I do believe though that Simons is exactly what Dior needs. This just might work out wonderfully. I am just in shock that he’s preparing an haute couture collection to show in July in just two and a half months! I don’t even know how that is possible, but if anyone can do it…

I think we can safely note the season’s trends:

  • black and white
  • transparencies
  • peplum jackets with cinched waists over skirts

Do you think Valli and Gaytten sat down and did their homework together or something?

But then again, you may prefer something less constructed. These two gowns also shown at Christian Dior haute couture Spring 2012 were just as beautiful and eye-catching with the precise draping that looks so nonchalant, the skirts that skim the body, the graceful lines… dreamy.
