"Sweetness and light, the two noblest of things."

Roland Mouret, Fall 2011

Here, a close-up so you can see the faux pocket welts at the hip. Such a good detail, adding just a bit of interest to the canvas of the dress without compromising the silhouette or being too fussy.

Now if I could just put this on every day I’m sort of convinced I’ll be transformed entirely and wake up one morning in Paris with a small fluffy dog, a nonchalantly chic French husband, and an apartment near Laduree. One can dream, yes?

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this FFF and the wonderful Roland Mouret dress.. Have a wonderful day and we’ll be back next week!

Roland Mouret, Fall 2011.

As you can see, Mouret is a genius at fit. Of course each body is different and with a few minor adjustments to individual figure this could be even more stunning, but it’s pretty damn good for ready to wear! The wool/viscose fabric even seemed to have a bit of stretch to it, just a tiny touch that sort of held everything together. The darts were placed perfectly (no awkward dart points that end right at the nipple) and the neckline was super flattering. There was no lining (I mean where would you put it this dress is so tight!) but every seam was finished beautifully, the hardware and zipper were extremely high quality and the hand of the fabric… flawless.

Most importantly, when I put this dress on I instantly felt super elegant, chic, important and grown up! I imagine it’s similar to what a man feels in a good bespoke suit. Your carriage and posture changes entirely and you can’t help but feel ah-mazing. And that…. is what it’s all about.

Rouland Mouret, Fall 2011.

Good Morning chickadees! Though NYFW is over for this season, we’re still fully immersed in what’s happening for the current season here at DL. Jumping right in with some Mouret, who basically makes the best fitting dresses of this kind. Ever. Herve Leger bandage dress you say? Let me tell you… zero competition.

I tried the above two looks (one of which I’m sharing today) so check it out and enjoy!

Roland Mouret, Fall 2011.

As soon as I zipped this dress up and looked in the mirror, I was like… whaaattt??? Is this for real? It’s amazing. Standing there hand on hip, thinking, seriously? It’s too good. Can I somehow set aside the $1900 to purchase it? Because really this is the sort of dress that you keep for a lifetime. It’s not ever going to be out of style or off trend or look passe` which makes it worth it!

Miu Miu Fall 2011

And for the finale…. something i thought was interesting about the fabric here. They chose to use a white base cloth and then print black (and off-white, yellow and green) on top of it leaving the white flowers as the ground color. As you can see when I turn up the hem.. the whole back side (and thus interior of the dress) is white! It’s also a printing technique that is tricky to accomplish well but of course… this is MiuMiu, it’s perfect!

That is it for today’s fashion fantasy! A big thank you to Mel for helping me shoot, and now it’s off to do some NYFW stuff- tons of shows to attend today!

Miu Miu Fall 2011

Here are some detail shots so you can see the print close up, the perfect tiny snaps that fastened the 3/4 length sleeve… and finally we turned the entire thing inside out so check out the interior construction. 1940’s dresses- big on shoulder pads, and this was no exception. Those things are intense! You can also see clearly here the seaming and darts that create the shape of the dress.

Miu Miu Fall 2011

So here we go, front back and center! I snapped up the last dress to try and to be honest… it was one size too small. I mean I zipped into it, but thank goodness I hadn’t eaten breakfast or lunch or even drank a glass of water! The fabric is 100% viscose and has zero give at all so there’s not even a millimeter of room extra and we nearly lost fingers zipping it up. But it looks so good on! You just turn into a lady and start thinking what sort of hat and gloves to wear…

Lily of the Valley has long been one of my favorite flowers, so the fact that this particular model featuring sprays of them was a great extra! Oh, and the shoes are my own, Miu Miu as well… but from ages ago- Fall 2008 I think.

Miu Miu Fall 2011

Last week I recruited a tumblr friend to come shoot fashion fantasy with me.. and a floral runway dress from Miu Miu was #1 on the list! On the runway it was shown with that sort of bow cummerbund situation, and there was also a coat with the same floral sprays. In-store the selection was much narrower, but we still did okay!

Morgane Le Fay, Spring 2011

The structure underneath this gown is simple in that it’s basically just a petticoat… but the shape and construction really create the perfect volume for the gown. The layers of tulle only start around calf height, so the entire gown floats downwards and then only poufs out around the hem. The gathered chiffon applique is a lovely romantic, feminine detail still subtle enough it nearly goes unnoticed at first glance.

Morgane Le Fay, Spring 2011

I paired the gown with a dove grey sort of “shrug” thing in silk chiffon that buttoned in the front and had a smocked, victorian-style high collar. It read either very mother-of-the-bride, or super weird fashion-y… depending. Also there is this floating piece of chiffon sewn into the top of the bodice only at the back that either flutters behind you, or you can sweep it up and sort of gather it around yourself (bottom right photo).

Either way, the gown felt great on, just made you want to sort of waft around and meander through a garden maze with a saucer of champagne in your hand and a light breeze fluttering the chiffon skirt.

Morgane Le Fay, Spring 2011

This week I’m going back in the archives a bit to a gown I shot when Joelle and I visited the Morgane Le Fay store in Soho earlier this spring. I never posted it then… but I was feeling sort of dreamy and moody the other day and thought this was the perfect chance to use it. A thousand layers of silk chiffon all swirling around you, an optional crinoline, and some beautiful embellishments… definitely the stuff of fashion fantasies.

Gary Graham x Anagram, Summer 2012

Close-up of the printed chiffon- reminds me a bit of Sonia Delaunay’s textiles and some Georges Braque paintings.

We had a lot of fun shooting at the Tribeca store, esp with all the fun mirror angles and pretty decent lighting. Overall, this Fashion Fantasy reaffirmed my admiration of and longing for pieces from Graham’s collection. I highly recommend checking out the line as I really can’t think of anyone else in the city who is doing work like this. Especially Fall 2011 which is trickling into the store now- it’s really spectacular.

And that is all! Enjoy your Friday everyone and stay tuned for more fashion fantasies! Is there anything in particular you guys want to see?

Gary Graham x Anagram, Summer 2012

Here’s a nice close-up of the cashmere legging situation, and the chiffon dress/tunic. I’m thinking that the tunic even over some denim, or a really sleek maxi skirt could look amazing. Or you could just throw on a slip under and go more traditional. Either way loved the the dress, still not excited about the drop-crotch leggings, though I must say the jersey they used was delicious.

Gary Graham x Anagram, Summer 2012

So let’s begin. These two pieces are from the Anagram line which is the slighty lower priced part of the collection. It has wonderful pieces and some great prints, but fewer expensive details and embellishments.

I chose this printed silk chiffon dress because I thought the pattern was great and it’s pretty versatile in terms of how and where you could incorporate it into your ensemble. Then I added these charcoal grey cashmere blend drop-crotch legging things as something to layer underneath. While they were supercozy and felt amazing on the body, they certainly left something to be desired in terms of workability.

Granted, I suppose part of the charm (?) is that you can wear them different ways… but every way I tried was pretty much silly and unflattering. I could have been carrying a small child, pet, or package inside that drop-crotch! Not cute.
